What is skin rejuvenation?

Facial skin is supported by underlying collagen and elastin, which decreases with age, causing fine lines and wrinkles to appear. As we age we also develop sun or age spots. Thread and spider veins can also become noticeable as our skin ages. The light from the machine: a red light from the Lynton Lumina IPL stimulates the body's own natural processes to form new collagen, elastin and rejuvenate itself. The reduction of fine lines, aging spots and veins is evident after the first treatment of Skin Rejuvenation.

What skin rejuvenation can do

The treatment can improve skin tone and texture, lift and hydrate skin and even out pigmentation. It makes skin firmer and smoother, reducing lines and wrinkles. It can be used on the face, neck and chest as well as other areas which have been exposed to sun, such as the hands.

What skin rejuvenation can't do

Skin that has already been heavily damaged by over-exposure to sun won't benefit from this treatment. This treatment is best suited to skins showing early signs of aging.

What happens during consultation and treatment?

As with all of our treatments, you’ll have a consultation with a qualified nurse or practitioner before deciding if you want to go ahead. They will discuss all aspects of the treatment and you’ll have your concerns addressed. Clear and expected treatment expectations will also be discussed. Confidential photos will be taken to assess before and after results.

You will have a patch test to select the correct settings on the laser for your first treatment and to see if your skin is suitable for this treatment. This is quite rare that someone is not suitable. All going well following this patch test you can have treatment one a few days later.

During treatment you will lie on the couch with black out goggles on if having facial treatments and non-black out goggles if having hands treated. An intense burst of light is shone on to the skin. No anaesthetic is used but the process can be mildly uncomfortable but is very quick. No recovery time is needed, but the skin may look slightly red, nothing a little make-up can’t cover. For facial and hand Skin Rejuvenation treatments are given in courses of 4–6 with a 2-3 week gap between each treatment. To maintain results you will need to have top up treatments a few times a year. These will, of course, vary slightly depending on your skin.

This treatment is often combined with other treatments available to Brighton Laser Clinic such as Botox™, Restylane™ or Jan Marini™ chemical peels.

Results

The initial effect is a clearer, brighter complexion which improves with subsequent treatments.

Risks

The effects of this light source as a skin enhancer were discovered through its use in hospital dermatology and oncology departments. It has been used for more than 10 years in hospitals with no side-effects. The light used doesn't have dangerous UV or infrared rays or generate heat, so it can't burn the skin. The treatment is unsuitable for anyone who suffers from epilepsy or porphyria. Avoid exposure to the sun for 24-48 hours after treatment and always use sunscreen SPF 30+ and moisturisers.
